Getting ready for that weekend cookout? You went online and got yourself some incredible farm-raised Wagyu and now you want to create a meal that does this premium ingredient justice. All you need to do now is find the right side dishes. There’s no way around it, the Wagyu beef is going to be the show-stopper. Nothing compares to the mouthwatering taste of perfectly marbled American Wagyu. But who doesn’t like side dishes? Especially if they are made to pair perfectly with your steak.
Here are a few ideas on how to accompany this extraordinary beef.
Use That Grill
You’ve probably got your grill up and running. If that’s the case, then this is the perfect opportunity to get some side dishes going while your Wagyu beef sizzles. Grilled veggies are a side dish that everyone can enjoy. Get some portobello mushrooms and clean them thoroughly. Finely chop some provolone cheese and stuff the mushrooms with it. Drizzle some salt, pepper and extra virgin olive oil and throw them on the grill as an appetizer or to accompany your meat course. Grilled mushrooms are great to serve with Wagyu beef, as they’ll add a different flavor profile that won’t compete with your steak.
Another good vegetable to throw on the grill is red bell peppers. Get a little adventurous and add some flair to this side dish. Crack an egg inside of the halved bell pepper and grill it until perfectly cooked. Runny yolk or fully cooked? That’s up to you.
As you can see, this is not your ordinary side dish. Grilled bell peppers are also a good starter. Get some freshly baked sourdough bread and serve these as a teaser of the scrumptious Kobe beef that will come next.
Good Ol’ Fries
Every meat lover knows that steak and fries are a match made in heaven. If you’re going to serve American Wagyu, then you’ll want to be sure that the fries are up to the task. So skip the frozen fries and buy some beautiful Idaho Potatoes. You’ll want to wash them thoroughly, peel them, chop them up into vertical slices and soak them in water for a few minutes. This will wash away the excess starch and will result in irresistible crispy fries, perfect to soak up the juices from your Wagyu Beef.
The oil in which you fry them is going to make all the difference. A little restaurant secret is to use peanut oil. Fry them till crispy and then give them a toss with salt and freshly ground pepper, and you’re done! Now it’s time to gather everyone, open some beautiful bottles of Shiraz and enjoy.
Even though these side dishes sound amazing. Always keep in mind that the star of the show is your American Wagyu. When choosing a side dish to accompany your steak meal, stick with vegetables with mild flavors that won’t overshadow that fantastic steak’s flavor profiles.
