The legacy of Maries River Wagyu begins in the beautiful countryside of Central Missouri.

The legacy of Maries River Wagyu begins in the beautiful countryside of Central Missouri. The story originates with my father, Terry Neuner, a modern-day renaissance man. Dad grew up in a small town with the idea that “anything is possible if you would put your mind to it”. His life was a living testament to that ethos.

He took this spirit and applied it heartily to his life.  He was an accomplished biochemist by education, an inventor, and helped successfully run one of the largest international conglomerates in the world.

On a business trip to Kobe Japan in the late 80’s, he discovered Wagyu beef. He determined that this breed of animal, nurtured in the terroir of Central Missouri and the intensity of its environment, could truly bring out all the best characteristics of this special breed of cow.

He was correct.  In 1995, he established Maries River Wagyu.  Maries River is a spring-fed stream that ribbons through our farms.  Animals enjoy sweet grasses, rich in nutrients unique to our area.  Our animals are treated to high touch care, resources, and a diet that is only available precisely here.

The combination of breed, environment and special attention separates the quality and taste characteristics that are entirely distinctive to Maries River Wagyu.

We invite you to enjoy America’s best beef.

In Winemaking, They Call It Terroir

  • winemaking
  • It means the complete natural environment in which a particular wine is produced, including the soil, the topography, and the climate. In raising Wagyu beef cattle, you won’t find a better terroir than Central Missouri. The sugar content of our native grasses, the range of temperatures throughout the seasons in our climate, the rolling hills and green pastures of our topography, all culminate into the ideal place for Wagyu cattle to grow and thrive. Especially when they have hundreds of acres on which to roam and graze.

OUR BELIEF

The river always finds a way.

Raising cattle doesn’t come without its challenges. It’s hard, hands-on work. And Blake, our Director of Farm Operations, is out in the field every day, making sure our cows are happy, healthy, and safe. We keep things as natural as possible. We never use hormones, and only use antibiotics if not doing so would threaten the life of the animal. We raise our cattle humanely with great care in a truly beautiful and peaceful setting on the banks of the Maries River in Central Missouri. Just like every business, we have budgets and expenses to account for, but at the end of the day, we will always choose to find a way to do things right, for our cattle and our customers, no matter what.
